Duel Of The Giants - Component Review

I got my copy of the game today. You have to love Amazon.com service. It came two days before the first expected day of arrival. http://www.militarywargaming.com/ima..._e_biggrin.gif

On to the game!

As you will soon see, the board, cards, tiles, tokens and chits for the game are beautiful and well made of high quality, thick card stock. The board itself, while on the plain side, is nice looking in its own right. Its double sided with Summer on one side and winter on the reverse. The plainess of the board is made up for by the addition of hill, forest and other terrain features in the form of terrain hexagons ala Mem44, TOI ect., which fill out the map nicely during each game. [Which BTW arent set in stone as to where they are placed at the beginning of each game and always change and that adds alot of replayability to the game]

The only minor beef i have with the game are with the German minis. The Stukas tail plane is angled wrong and the 37mm cannons are angled aiming up wards. Also, the Stuka itself when fitted to its base, angles up, instead of down or in an even line. It looks a little weird with the misshapened features mentioned above. The two Tigers, while highly detailed, have tear marks on the front glacis plates wear someone at the factory twisted them from the sprure rather brutally, instead of clipping them like they should of been done. There are also a few sinkholes in the plastic on the turrets and some weak spots in the plastic showing. Finally the muzzle brake is upsidedown. The russian T-34s i got were pretty much perfect. Im going to replace these minis anyhow, but it would of been nice if they were in better shape. Still, they're better than anything that ever came with any game ive ever bought before, so im fine with them.

Lastly the game came with a flatened cardboard insert you are supposed to fold up and into one large box divider for all the game components after you open all your stuff. If your not an engineer or an origami expert, BGG.com has a nice shot of the empy unit already folded and you'll get the idea from that pic how to do it. Ill put in a before and after shot to show it to you all.

Pics to follow.
