Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare

Who's going to get this game?

http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/indexnew.php

I am for the PC.

KG_Panzerschreck 11-06-2007 12:16 AM

Ill get it for the XBOX 360, but my PC would never be able to run it. :beerglass

KG_Kharkov 11-06-2007 08:10 AM

for the 360 here. Same regarding the PC. I doubt mine could run it well.

KG_Soldier 11-06-2007 12:04 PM

I'm getting it for the X-Box just so you will have to buy one if you want to play with your KG brothers.

KG_Cloghaun 11-06-2007 12:06 PM

I've said for awhile now that I've always wanted to eventually get a FPS game & play with you guys. Now that I have the PC to do it, I'd be willing to get this one if some more of you guys are going to.

Is this game going to be the next great FPS game or just a flash in the pan release? I'd like to know before throwing my $ around.

Thanks.

KG_Kharkov 11-06-2007 12:52 PM

The 360 version has gotten great reviews -- it will be the highest rated shooter this year other than Halo 3 on the 360. You can't go wrong if you get it for PC (I'm betting). Get yourself a 360 Franky! We need to beat up on your Lions!

KG_Soldier 11-06-2007 02:38 PM

I agree, get the X-Box Frank! We could start a KG Madden League. Titans, Lions, Steelers, Browns, ect. Andy can be the Chargers.

KG_Cloghaun 11-06-2007 03:39 PM

Why should I buy an X-box 360? You can play all these games on the PC, can't you? What's the advantage of having another gaming system?

Just curious.

I also thought that FPS games are easier to control with a key board than a handheld controller? I've heard that anyway.

How do you connect? Via your cable provider?

KG_Kharkov 11-06-2007 03:53 PM

You buy a 360 for a couple of reasons:

1. Convenience -- you never have to worry about game specs, compatiblity with your vid card, operating system etc. and all that other crazy ridiculous stuff you get with PC games. You also cut your "crash" events by 99%. You'll only ever crash online barring a rare bad 360 (all the new ones on the market have their kinks ironed out).

2. Play on your TV, not a monitor, and play with friends at your house.

3. Online convenience: Microsoft's online set up is fantastic. A centralized uniform standard for all game providers to use. I used to be a huge PS guy but Microsoft is so much better in this department.

4. Fantastic game selection -- again, play all cutting edge games without worrying about your system specs. Also, play exclusive games which are quite good (like Halo 3) and play games which are better suited for console like sports games.

Connecting your Xbox is ultra-simple. Buy an XBox live account ($50 for a full year), connect your ethernet cable (or buy a wireless connector if you have a wireless modem in your house) and follow the easy online set up. After that, you automatically log on every time your XBox is hooked up to the internet and you have it on. In other words, if you have the internet, you don't need anything else other than an Xbox Live membership.

As for the PC vs. Controller debate for shooters, you will find folks like Steve who can't play shooters well on a controller b/c they learned on PC. I learned to play games on a controller so shooters seem natural on the controller. I find mouse and keyboard to just be wierd for a shooter and prefer a controller every time. Basically, both work just fine and you'll find folks who like both, and folks who only like one b/c they aren't used to the other.

KG_Soldier 11-06-2007 04:40 PM

I was playing John on my 60" HD tv, pretty cool. I haven't tried a shooter on the X-Box but will when CoD4 comes out. It'll probably take me a while to get used to it. The X-Box also plays DVDs and the price of the HD DVD attachment will soon be affordable, $150 bucks or so now (which is pretty cheap compared to other HD DVD players). I hook-up to the internet via wireless and haven't had any problems.

Other than crashing our game when I was winning 17-0 . . . .

Oh, yea, it's a DVD player. Even without the HD attachment, DVDs on an HDTV running at 480p look great.

One other thing -- imagine how you feel after playing a shooter for 3 hours hunched over your keyboard at a desk stairing at 21 inch monitor. Now imagine how you feel with your feet propped up on a comfy stool, in your comfy chair looking at a 42 inch TV about 6 feet from you -- with a beer on the table next to you.

Oh, and no installation time? Buy game, put it in, play it instantly.

No need to get 5000 patches for the game . . . .

360 game patches are only for online play and generally are quite small and apply within seconds. Compare that to the average PC game's patch process.

Also, voicechat with friends easily without the need to be running TS or Ventrillo in the background.

KG_Soldier 11-06-2007 05:51 PM

That wasn't a problem John, a blessing.

KG_SSpoom 11-06-2007 07:40 PM

If you are just playing us schmoes, it will all balance out. Anyone know offhand if the 360 has co-op campaign mode. I think it does. That is one of the great things on 360, some of the games like Halo 3, Gears of War, RS6Vegas all have great co-op campaign modes.

Got the PC version of the game. Incredibly smooth and gorgeous graphics. Can be scaled to run almost any reasonably new (1-3 years) PC confguration.

To someone who already has a PC, buying a shooter for a console is not the smartest route. Managing 3 joysticks, 9 trigger buttons, 16 pad buttons while looking for shit to shoot at on half of a screen (if you are playing with your friends in your home) is just silly. There has yet to be a console control that can match the classic WASD/Mouse combo for smoothness and ease of control.

Frank, this is a good one to get for you computer. Don't even waste any brain cells on a console version.

I have already entered to CAL competition for this game on an invite from an existing competition squad.

But beofre you do anything, download the Demo of the game and give it a whirl. Just Google and you should be able to find it easily.

KG_Kharkov 11-07-2007 09:21 AM

Come on. All shooters on console basically use 5 buttons/sticks -- left move stick, right look stick (or vice versa), right trigger to fire, and a button to swap weapons and a button to reload.

It really ain't that difficult. If you are playing on XBox Live you obviously have 42 inches+ of TV to yourself. If you are playing with a friend at your home, well you have a friend at your home. Try doing that with a PC game. And on half of a 50 or 60 inch TV, you actually have more TV screen than you do on your 19 inch monitor.

Halo control scheme rivals anything a silly mouse and keypad can do, and frankly it is more immersive. Shooters with a mouse just doesn't feel all that immersive frankly.

WOW... I actually agree with ROB, the game us absolutely gorgeous!
The visuals are awesome and they finally took away the cartoon feel of grenades.... you used to throw them a country mile now you looking at 10-15 feet at max

This is going to KILL console players... this game was made for the PC!

IMO, playing this game on a 22 inch LCD widescreen with 7.1 sound is not as bad as you make it sound Khar...

Franky.... This my friend is the SHIZZLE!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that Grenade ranges in most FPS game are a bit over done but are you telling me that realistic ranges are only 1.3 to 5 yards?

And even if you screwed up and meant yards instead of feet, that range is still way to short. As the proud owner of a real WWII issued pineapple grenade, i can tell you that i could easily thrown one much farther than 15 yards.

Ok ok , I understated the range, it's honestly more like 20-30 yards ballpark....

I have been playing it more and more!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-PC. Some games like World of Warcraft could never be adapted well to console. I just don't like being hunched over a keyboard and a mouse for 3 hours playing a shooter. It's way more relaxing to be in your comfy chair with your feet up staring at a big screen high def TV.

I hear you buddy. I should of taken you upstairs and shown you my PC chair when you were here, you would of liked it. I never know when im going to get hammered with a vertigo attack and get stuck in one place for hours on end so i have a really nice leather recliner for a PC chair, LOL. If i have an attack i just kick back and pull on of my Moms homemade afghans over me and passout for awhile. This thing is more comfy than my bed, hehe.

KG_CrimsonTrooper 11-11-2007 02:51 AM

The more I play this the more I love it....

This game rewards you as you improve in your proficiency with many many different types of weapons!

Franky....This is a MUST buy for the PC! Consoles smonsoles......

Consoles are for boys.... PC's are for Men!

No console can give you the experience the PC can......ESPECIALLY with COD4!

KG_SSpoom 11-11-2007 11:30 AM

I picked it up for the pc and have played it for about an hour.
Very cool .
Since I play my X-Box 360 on a computer monitor anyway the console
version offers me no benefits right now.
My computer runs this really well and it just looks phenominal!

KG_Cloghaun 11-11-2007 11:40 AM

Where is the cheapest place to buy the PC version? Or is it pretty much the same everywhere?

Here's the cheapest place so far...

http://www.gogamer.com/Call-of-Duty-...VVviewprod.htm

I know the owner, they are VERY competitive price-wise for all computer games.

KG_CrimsonTrooper 11-11-2007 11:49 PM

If you don't play as a team in this game.... RAMBO DIES!!!!!!!!!

Great team play leads to victories....

I play a few different servers, (SKA) Run & Gun is an excellent server...they have FF on so it makes you a better player or your teammates will hate you...

KG_CrimsonTrooper 11-12-2007 07:08 PM

Circuit City has it on sale for $39.99

as well as "Crysis" for $39.99 this Wednesday!

KG_Norad 11-12-2007 09:32 PM

I would love to try it out. Right now no Xbox and no PC powerful enough but when I get one or the other look out. I will certainly FPS

GDS_Starfury 01-19-2008 12:31 PM

Im happy to announce that the group Ive been playing CSS with just opened a COD4 server. much like KG most of the guys are over 30, professional and somewhat mature. please feel free to come play anytime. the IP and name are:
208.100.64.4:28960
EastCoastGuardians

Id also like to say thanks to Soldier and Crimson for getting into our CSS servers. if I havnt been as chatty as I used to be its because theres a lot going on behind the scenes. I never realized how much work it takes to run a server.
hope to see ya there!

KG_Cloghaun 01-19-2008 12:55 PM

Not a criticism- just a curious question:

Why don't you guys use TS when you play? Wouldn't having the ability to have voice comms give you better team coordination?

KG_Soldier 01-19-2008 03:37 PM

Because I like shooting Andy so much I always play on the other team. :)

KG_CrimsonTrooper 01-19-2008 05:04 PM

Absolutely NOTHING brings more joy than when I take Soldier out with my bolt action rifle when he comes running around a corner "Prayin & Sprayin"

KG_AGCent 01-21-2008 10:43 AM

Is it set up in Hardcore, Stock or Old-School mode?

Andy, competition has begun, are you still interested in participating?

Star, server adminning is very labor intensive!

KG_AGCent 04-01-2008 02:47 AM

I have been playing cometitively on the TWL circuit for abou 4 monthes now and it has been a good, rewarding and learning experience. I enjoy the hell out of competing in matches vs. other teams. The communications, pre-match strategy sessions and after-action sessions have proven to be an absolute blast. I have really imnproved my gameplay just by playing with better players and learning different techniques. The team I am competeing with is called Eminent Gamers their match tag is e|g~ and my handle is Eisenhorn. TWL is different than the classic club or clan make up. Its a team of dedicated individuals whose sole purpose for being together is competition. So there are no strings, no "this clan only" attitudes because they aren't a clan, just a team whose members have individual ties to other clans who come together to compete.

Anyhow, I had the round of my life the other night. I challenge Andy to beat this score. 20 minute map, Team Death Match, pub play, FF=on, 5 sec respawn. The gauntlet is thrown. Can you best this in single round KDR (kill-death ratio) and simple numbers?
