from what I gather this is what happened:
sandnegro drops the first round in and the charge goes off but the round stays in the tube. then the sandnegro drops the second round right on the contact fuze of the first round and gets blow to hell. |

I showed the video to my friend, Dan, who some of you met. He was a 60mm & 81mm gunner in the 82nd Airborne.
It's his opinion that the 1st round does exit the tube, based on the distinct sound made after it's dropped as well as the exit smoke trail leaving the tube. The most plausible explanation for the explosion he thinks is that the 2nd round had a bad plunger on the explosive. The compression force of the charge to fire the round out of the tube was enough to cause the plunger to depress, thereby detonating the explosive. Dan saw combat in Panama & was part of Operation Desert Sheild/Storm. |
