Default NCAA & relaxing gaming.

I guess the Gen section is the place for this thread...

What do you do gaming-wise to relax in between "war-gaming?"

When I literally burnt myself out on CM & was sick I used to play EA's NCAA football game, which is until the new edition defenses could barely stop a single drive except by making you turn over the ball- repeatedly. The last one I liked was the '04 version. Since then they've sucked. When my son can rack up nearly 80 pts & 1000 yds of offense in a 20 minute game ('08) something is still wrong with the defensive A.I. (I did watch my nephew do the same in a Madden game so maybe all AI defenses now suck)

How real is that? I want to play a relatively "accurate" game of football w/15 minute quarters.

I'm hoping the '09 version has some sort of decent defense. In the '07 version which I gave a try (my son has bought them all) I had a 49-0 lead going into the 3rd quarter (12 minute quarters, #16 (me) vs #7) when I had 9, yes 9 straight turnovers and lost 56-52. I don't call that a good defensive A.I. but a top 10 "can't" lose to a lower ranked team fixed program. It was either losing by turnovers or having unstoppable scoring drives every game. Turned me right off.

I could care less if my "crib" gets better or my girlfriend gets prettier the better "I" did in the game or the stadium shakes: I just want the dang AI defense to play well & make me punt.

The only good aspect of the game was the Dynasty / recruitment modes, which I found enjoyable. It was rather exciting to see which recruits joined my squad each round. Although it really didn't matter in the end (after '04), once you got onto the field.

So, does anyone else play NCAA & plan on buying '09? If so can't wait to hear if the '09 defense makes it worth playing.

And if not what do you play (if anything) to relax from war-gaming?

Ya, all my boys are a lot better than I am now at the quick finger games (FPS's).
But you want your kids to be better than you, especialy if you push them to do it & they do!

I wouldn't mind playing NCAA in a mode that let me pick the team players & set the plays then watching them run it- a coaches view I think? But I don't want to just hit "go" & the season just flashes by either.

Ive never tried the NCAA games because of what you've just said Kerry. I have heard that from alot of people. Everyone has said the last good game was '04.

I have and enjoy Madden '08. Im looking to get the EA sports Baseball game soon. A seasons worth of that should eat up alot of time, lol. I also like racing games. I have Forza Motorsports II, a great game BTW, and Dirt, another one that is a blast to play.

I also enjoy playing roleplaying games on the XBOX360 but i wish they would comeout with and officially sanctioned AD&D RPG for it.

But by far my favorite game i have ever played is Dead Rising. Your trapped in a mall with tens of thousands of Zombies. Its a hard, but very cool game.

I liked to play the old "Red Baron" WWI game by Sierra. Pretty simple controls and missons, the open cockpit feeling of looking over the side & down was cool. The games now I think are far too complicated for a quick "pickup" game to pass away few fun hours. By the time you remember the hundreds of special key's the time I intended to play is over.

When I want to give wargaming a rest I crack open Civ IV or EUII, though I'm not sure there is much difference the immersion level is different.
