All I can say is Including Andrew I know of exactly 1 person who has
more good things than bad to say about Vista.
Thats why I will stick with XP for the time being.
Vista is almost certainly the way to go in the future
but most of the guys here play older games and all
of Vistas bells and whistles dont mean a thing if you cant play
the games you love.

The 6th -- I definitely won't be forgetting your birthday from now on, Sspoom!

... and with all his mastery of the Y chromosome, Kharkov STILL doesn't know the true meaning of being a father as he still lacks that most precious of all creations, a daughter. Keep trying, friend, you'll get there. :)

And I thought Rob would say you can't be a true father unless you're Catholic. :)

John, congratulations, your billions will be needed to send your four sons off to Texas State someday so that I can teach them to write solid sentences.

Very well put Steve.

No one said anything about HAVING to upgrade, I never said it was a requirement either. If you like XP, more power to you and I am happy for you because after alll it's all about what makes the person happy that counts.
I just didn't get being villified for ( dare I say it.... ) defending Vista.

Another 1 cent from me.

I got the opposite results Frank did in checking out Vista.
Not being PC savvy I only knew what I saw from the TV adds Mac put out about its problems. So I asked some computer nerd friends who work in several PC shops out here about Vista (never mentioning gaming at all) they had nothing but horror stories about it. They said unless there was a specific reason I needed Vista I should stick with XP until Vista cleaned up its act- so I did.

Btw, my new PC was a fathers day gift from MY 5 SONS!

Congrates on #4 John, (I don't know how I'd handle even 1 daughter)!!

Who would think a discussion about operating systems from the same company could get so heated?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with XP Home or Pro. I never said there was anything wrong. You know from our recent conversations that something was wrong with my old computer and I got tired of it.
I decided to put together a new computer and figured I would install Vista Home premium and see what all the hub-bub was about for myself.
Sure a few things didn't work out of the box so to speak ( Itune conflicts, Printer Issues with my HP Photo printer and a few of the games that I play have conflicts with Vista. In essence, until the much anticipated SP comes out I will find out if I will ever be able to play those games again on my PC.

Like all SP's there is going to be bad with the good, I am hoping for more good than bad but it's a crap shoot at best. Either way I will live with the outcome.

From what I have seen and played with, it has a lot more security features built into it for defenses against spyware, viruses, worms etc. The graphic interface is simply gorgeous. As far as EXACTLY what it can do that XP can't: I am still too new at tooling around with all the interfaces and programs to say exactly.

What type of programming are you talking about? It plays MOST games and runs applications such as Microsoft Office ( Word, Exel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook)

I do indeed like new technology but I am far from the type of person that has to have cutting edge technology by any means. My old PC was about 4 to 5 years old and was giving me nothing but problems. I bit the bullet and put together a new computer and I decided to go with VISTA over XP, why you ask, I figured that VISTA was here to stay so I better learn it either now or later... I chose now, and it has been a learning process for me. Getting to know what works with what and so forth.

That remains to be scene, if we go by BR clans stats I have been holding my own against you. :)

I won't dispute that your DoD capabilities are much improved on your new computer. Although how much credit Vista should get is questionable given the lag you always had on your old computer. Maybe it's just the faster computer and not Vista, or maybe it is Vista.

Texas State will not upgrade its computers to Vista for at least another year, maybe two. Until they do and I can learn it there, I'll pass.

I read somewhere that the first SP may not be out for a year. Is that right?
