Default KG Salutes All the Vets & Active Military on Memorial Day

While the sun is setting here in the west, it is only a few minutes away from Memorial Day in the east. Our deepest thanks to all who have worn the uniform and protected our nation and our freedoms.

My thoughts tonight seem to focus especially on those, now in the 80's and older who served in World War II. I think about the young man from the small Illinois town where my mom grew up who was on the Arizona when it was attacked. He survived, but up returning home, his hair was streaked with white. I think of my uncle who still lives in that small town. As a sgt. in charge of a platoon, one of his jobs was to end the sniping of Hitler Youth. Let's just say that he has never provided much detail, but has also made it clear that they could not be talked down. My dad was in the Navy. His uncle had left his horse behind in Wisconsin to command tanks in the ETO, having also traded his sgt. stripes for oak leaves. And there are so many others all around the world, as well as many, many more who now sleep with the angels.
