Default Company of Heroes

This RTS looks incredible (and from what I hear requires some decent horsepower from your PC) and has gotten great reviews.

DL'ed (1.76gb) installed and played last night. Great graphics, great sounds. Annoying speech. Good idea, terrible execution. Fog of war LOS limitations to around 50m for all units, infantry armor, etc. Tank battles where my StuG was chasing around a greyhound at less than 40m all over the map to prevent the target from leaving LOS into the FOW. The game plays too fast to put together a coherent plan and execute it with any sort of coordination. The game is zoomed too close in to get a good grasp on the tactical situation and you cannot give orders from the tactical map so it really makes no sense to use it because by the time you get a picture of what's happeneing from it, its usually too late to do anything about it anyway. Typical bandbox - clickfest.

I do have less harsh words for the resourcing part. It makes sense that the more ground you hold the faster your resources pile up simulating higher HQ approval of your work allocating more stuff to you.

This is a Very cool game you just have to get the feel for some certain limitations
(Los is a bit sketchy as per AGCent but not as bad as he describes it)
The game speed is manageable when you gain some familiarity with the different units
and how to use them to their strengths.
I really like it and I thought it was too fast at 1st also.
The game also has the ability to play 1v1 2v2 3v3 4v4
You could also play lopsided battles 2v3 3v4 all vs Rob =)
using Infantry to lengthen Los works wonders for tank battles.
You can Zoom the map out Way out and use many different views.
I have to disagree wholeheartedly about it being a bandbox click fest,if
you play that way you lose without ever getting the feel.
Have your pioneers build sandbags, barbed wire sow mines
build dragons teeth to slow down enemys freedom of movement.
Send snipers out ahead of armor to expand los.
This game is very cool and once you get the feel of the gameplay
the only time it feels too fast is if you are getting whomped.
The language is a bit obsesive with the liberal dropping of the F-bomb

If I could have a bigger part of the map visible, it would make things easier. Perhaps the lack of zoom-out is a demo shortcoming.

NO game is perfect, this game is what CC3 should have been!
The attention to detail is beyond my wildest dreams....

If you have a chance, watch what happens when your 88's are firing and scroll down to ground level.... you actually see your man pick up a round out of a box, put it in the 88 close the breach with so much detail you can see their sweat....

The game is awesome plain and simple..... Any game can be picjed to death how you don't like this or don't like that.....WHO the frick cares!!!!!!!!!

The ONLY thing that matters is that your having fun....end of discussion.
If you don't like the demo...don't buy the game...if you do you can find it for $30 or so.... It's great entertainment for the money! The single player is very cool and with the MP it'll never be the same game twice...

Like I said in other posts regarding this game, other than the VERY liberal use of the F-Bomb, this game is Hell's Bells!

We all know Crimson's favorite game is always the next one to come out.

What is the purpose of placing the setting of a game in particular time period if there is no attempt, beyond skin-deep appearances, to get it right?

It's nice that you can see the sweat on the brow of an 88 crewmember, but how much time are you going to spend that close to enjoy it? Chances are you are going to be more worried about how well that round just placed in the breach by said sweaty crew member (leave it to Crim to notice the sweaty men) is going to penetrate the frontal plates of that nasty sherman.

Like always, AGCent could ALWAYS make a better game and thats why he's in the HVAC field...

It doesn't take much to malign a game..... Anyone can, you take ALL the fun out of a game by over analyzing it period.... Does it make the game any worse for wear b/c you don't like it.... Tell us something new....

You my friend are status quo when it comes to brining the negative versus just taking it for what it's worth... a game that is suppossed to entertain you for an ex amount of time...Do I or should I care that the insignia that's on the soldier is in the wrong place or that the grey isn't correct in the uniform? Who Fliipin cares.....

Take the game for what it's worth...probably one of the best WWII RTS's out to date....

I let's set the matter straight.... Yes my gaming is as diverse as my taste in music... all that matters is that I find the game entertaining.... Hell I still play C & C Red Alert 2..... A very fun game that is 6 or more years old.... is it historically accurate...No but it is fun and thats all that matters to me.... Can I post negatives about the game...yes but whats the point?

I like all games that catch my interest whether it's a FPS or RTS.....

The next game I am looking forward to buy and play is called "World in Conflict" http://worldinconflict.com/

Let your negativity reign down AGCent.... Please tell me the formations are all wrong or whatever you may find.....
