This week we’ll start with two international offerings.

The first of these is a 1/48th scale Tamiya Hetzer. It is offered at Buy-Model for $39.00. It can be found here:

http://buy-model.com/itemdetail.php?Id=1889&ClassId=40&GroupId=198

The second international offer is Marushin 1/48 Kawanishi N1K2 Shiden-kai (George) 343rd IJN FG. It is offered at Hobby Link Japan for about $50.77 (5,980 yen) and can be found here:

http://www.hlj.com/product/MRS73623

Be sure to know your shipping costs when placing your international orders. Both companies listed above have helpful information on their site on this subject. Buy-Model makes it the easiest of any international company I have run across with regard to shipping to the good old USA.

Returning to the States, we have three selections this week.

The World War II tank collectors will want to check out the M4A3 Sherman Tank of the segregated Black Panthers battalion. It is offered by JJ’s Closet at $20.99. See it here:

http://www.jjshobby.com/Shoppingcart/product_info.php?cPath=68_58_70&products_id=817&os Csid=0102ff6b2888ef011e2e4651730fea4d

The stateside fly boys have two items to consider this week. The first of these is Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series CG-AA35203 P-40E Warhawk Diecast Model USAAF 49th FG, 9th FS, "White 86", Andrew Reynolds Limited Edition offered by the Flying Mule at only $15.99. It can be spotted here:

http://www.flyingmule.com/products/CG-AA35203

For our last offering we enter the modern era for an F-15E Strike Eagle built by Dragon in a 1/72nd scale. It is a Bad Cat Toys special at $19.95. It appears on your radar here:

Dragon's 1/72 scale AFVs appear to be the standard to beat at that scale, especially with regard to anything near its price points. Perhaps the closest competition comes Aoshima. If like most, you have not heard of this maker, check out what "Houston Mike" has to say and show about the Aoshima line:

http://www.mikes-tanks.com/Aoshima.htm

So our first offering is an international one from the Aoshima line. It is a Henschell King Tiger from the 503rd. You can link to at Hobby Link Japan it here Where it is offered at about $8.28 (980 yen).

http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS71328

Item #2 is Churchill Mk III from El Alamein in 1942. It is from Corgi at the 1/50 scale, and is offered at $19.99 by DieCast Direct:

http://www.diecastdirect.com/asp_mod...uctCode=C60104

Items #3 & #4 are your choice of FW-190A-4s. The first is from Tunisia in 1943 at $19.95, and the second is from France during that same year and costs 4 cents more. Both are Corgi 1/72 offerings at Pete's:

This week we feature the offerings from 21st Century. It's amazing to me that you can pick up some pretty good, although mostly plastic, replicas of AFVs and war planes at such low prices from outlets like Walmart, as well as on-line. For a sampling of what 21st Century has to offer, we turn to the Fetco web site. Although they are sold out of many of the pieces that are shown, others are still available. Check it out here:

http://fetco1.homestead.com/21stCentury3Coldsteel.html

For the World War II heavy bomber fans, we offer a 1/72 B-24 "dragon & babe" Liberator for $59.99. Pete's has limited stock on this item, which can be seen here:

We kick things off with an international offering 1/43 scale Sd. Kfz. 251/1 by Doyusha. It is offer by Hobby Link Japan for 2,000 yen (or about $17.16 in the US). You can find it here:

http://www.hlj.com/product/DYS00459

It appears to me that this piece is the same as those from Schuco, which will soon be available in the US. See the upcoming Schuco 1/43 scale line here:

http://www.schuco.de/uk/models/militaryseries.htm

So those in the US may want to wait and see if a better price and less for shipping on the same piece (and many more) will come about soon.

Our second offering is a buffet of Armour (aka Franklin Mint) on sale offerings from Wings and Wheels. You will find 11 planes and one helicopter being offered within a price range of $39.95 to $59.95. Just under half are post WW II jets, and exactly half (for a total of 6) are WW II airplanes, including 2 which may not be currently available. Check them out here:

This week I'll focus on very affordable items you can pick up to stick your toe into the water and get your collection started, or just to see if collecting any of these die cast things are of any interest to you.

The first two items are 1/87 scale German cats--the Panther and Tiger that is. They are both from Schuco and are available from German Aircooled at only $5.65 a pop. The links are:

http://www.germanaircooled.com/cart/...0759d66cbef7eb

and

http://www.germanaircooled.com/cart/...3c23aa0aa3a206

Next we have a 1/48 SpecCast New Zealand F4-U Corsair offered by Pete's at only $15.00. You can view it here:

http://www.petescollectibles.com/dis...mNo=47510#item

Or you can opt for a 1/72 Corgi Corsair in US livery from Pete's for just $12.99. See it here:

http://www.petescollectibles.com/dis...o=HC33011#item

Our last item for you die cast beginners (and others looking to pick up an item at a good and low price) is a 1/72 Dragon Tiger I (Early Production), 8/2. PzGrenDiv. "Das Reich", Russia 1943 offered by 3000 Toys at only $10.95. You can check it out here:

We have some offerings this week that even your mother can love.

On the AFV side of the house we feature two related German big cats. One is small and the other very large.

The little brother is the 1/72 scale Dragon Sd.Kfz. 182 King Tiger (Porsche Turret) 1.sPzKp. (Fkl) Pz. Lehr-Rgt. 130 Kaisersteinbruch 1944 offered by Pete's at only $9.99. Take a peak here:

http://www.petescollectibles.com/dis...emNo=pick#item

In a bit a role reversal, our very large 1/18th scale 21st Century Xtreme Detail eastern front Tiger offered by The Toy Federation at a low $39.95. You can catch this big, bad boy here:

http://www.thetoyfederation.com/xcar...t=0&bestseller

For you jet fighter jocks, we have two offerings as well.

The first takes you to the skies late in World War II. It is an Armour 1/48 scale Me-262 offered by 3000 Toys for $42.95. It can be seen streaking across the sky at this vector:

http://www.3000toys.com/catalog/item...=ARMOURB11B299

The second is, in my opinion, one of the cleanest and most beautiful jet fighters ever made, and a damned good fighter to boot. It is a 1/72 scale Corgi Legends Series F86A-5 49-1175 - 1Lt. Joseph E. Fields, 336th FIS/4th FIW, Kimpo, South Korea, 1952 offered by Pete's at $19.99.

You can get tone of this jet that flew when I was a baby at this heading:

A couple weeks ago we featured items that were priced low and perfect for the novice collector or someone with a casual interest to pick up.

This time we're focusing on some higher priced items. You may not need to be a trust fund kid to buy them, but it won't hurt!

Item #1 is the increasingly rare Dragon 1:35 scale Tunisia Tiger. It can certainly be argued that this piece is too dear at about $70. But based on limited availability, the fact that this is a first issue, the high degree of quality and detail, and that most of the few other places where you can order this item charge much more, I have to conclude that the $69.95 that you will spend at DieCast Direct for this piece is money well spent. You can find it in limited quantities here:

http://www.diecastdirect.com/asp_mod...ctCode=DW61001

Item #2 is not too much different in type from item #1, but it is not die cast at all. Instead it is a complete Tamiya model from their Masterworks Collection. At $78.57, this is the best price I have found on a 1:35 scale Masterworks AFV. This one is a Bradley and it is a buute! Check it out from Micro Macro Mundo here:

http://www.rocousa.com/DETAIL.ASP?PRODUCT_ID=ta21023

Item #3 will take us above the battlefield. In honor of our recent KG field trip to the US Air Force Museum, where we saw one of these babies and had our group picture taken in front of same, I have selected the Ju-52. This 1:48 scale Crete Armour (Franklin Mint) version from 3000 Toys is offered for $97.90. It is rare to see one offered for less than a C note. See it for free here:

http://www.3000toys.com/catalog/item...=ARMOURB11B639

Item #4 and last is for international purchase from the good folks at Hobby Link Japan. It is a Marushin 1/48 Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero Type 52 offered for 4,908 yen or about $44.61. Marushin products are very hard to find in the US, and I have heard that they can also be hard to find even in Japan. They are excellent quality heavy metal planes. You can take a trip to Japan by clicking here:

We have two Dragon 1:72 scale AFVs this week.

From WWII and 3000 Toys we have a Tiger I (Early Production), 8/2. PzGrenDiv. "Das Reich", Russia 1943 for $10.95. It can be seen trying to hold back the Soviet offensive here:

http://www.3000toys.com/catalog/item...nd=DRAGON60098

The modern AFV is a Leopard 2 A6 offered by Pete's at $9.99. I can be found here:

http://www.petescollectibles.com/dis...=DRR60052#item

To enhance your 1:35 AFVs, we feature two 1943 Kharkov infantry men from Dragon and 3000 Toys for $3.99 each. You can find them in winter camo and ready to fight by training your binoculars here:

http://www.3000toys.com/catalog/item...=DRAGON20078-D

and

This week includes the the 52nd anniversary of D-Day. In honor of D-Day our first selection is a 1:72 Corgi early model (D?) P-47, complete with invasion stripes. Pete's has it for $14.99. It can be seen here hitting German ground targets:

http://www.petescollectibles.com/dis...o=HC33807#item

Invasion stripes as also seen on our second selection for air warriors, a 1:72 Supermarine Spitfire LF IX - MK392/JE-J, Wg. Cdr. Johnnie Johnson, OC No. 144 Wing, 1944. Pete's offers it for $19.99. I was last seen flying low over Sword Beach here:

http://www.petescollectibles.com/dis...o=AA31916#item

To satisfy our ground pounders, we feature two versions of the mighty German Tiger tank. Both are from Pete's, who seems to have cornered the "market" this week.

The first is a PzKpfw VI Ausf H, Tiger I, featuring kill rings--and many of them. This is a 1:50 Corgi, which goes for $24.99. It can be spotted in hull down position here:

http://www.petescollectibles.com/dis...o=US60509#item

The last item is Dragon 1:72 Berge Tiger for just $9.99. It can be found pulling the first Tiger out of the sand here:
