Default Tide of Iron

Tide of Iron

By, Fantasy Flight Games

This game looks like it has everything. Its a little more complex than Memior '44 but not as complex as say an old Avalon Hill Wargame. Its not that hard to pick up from what the reviews say. Scroll down to the bottom of the page at Funagaingames.com and read the excellent review by Tom Vassel.

Preorder at Funagaingames.com for 63.95 -

http://www.funagain.com/control/prod...l=true#reviews

Here is the blurb from Funagain -

"Tide of Iron feature hundreds of detailed plastic figures, including soldiers, tanks, and other combat vehicles. The game rules focus on realistically simulating squad-level combat, but are streamlined enough to appeal to casual board gamers. Tide of Iron features a modular game board on which up to 6 players (divided into 2 teams) can test their tactical prowess in dozens of scenarios."

I forgot to mention that both games will be available in June '07.

I have this on reserve at my local hobby shop. My son has mastered Command and Colors: Ancients and I figured this would round out our WW2 game set (between this and Memoir 44 we'll be all set for years).

Im really torn here. I have a few bucks to spare and i was set on buying Memior '44. Now this is comming out. Which one to buy... I want something to play with my teenage Nephews{16 & 13}, it has to be light for them, but on the other hand i will get the most gaming time in with my buddy Brad and i would like to push him towards Avalon Hill games but we need a "next step" game thats up from A&A, and TOI could be it. What to do, what to do...

Having seen all 3 games, I'd choose Command & Colors: Ancients. Enough depth to keep you interested, Kent. Simple enough to teach the teenager. Enjoyable enough to replay battles over and over. A step up from Memoir 44 and a step up from Axis and Allies. It's about the same price as Memoir 44 (maybe a tad more expensive) but my kids absolutely love it. My 8 year old plays the other side and my 5 year old rolls for him. After 9 games, my 5 year actually knows a fair amount of the rules.

My 8 year old progressed from Stratego to Axis & Allies (partial games on part of the map) to full Axis & Allies to Memoir 44 to C&C. Check out the free rule and scenario downloads at GMT's website if you are interested.

Ive wanted CCA ever since it came out. The trouble is id have no one to play it with. My Nephews are Civil War and WWII nuts. My buddy Brad is into WWI, WWII & Fantasy gaming. The game i get should be WWII based so i can play it with everyone. The next step is deciding which one to get, Memior '44 or Tide Of Iron. Its important that i chose the right system, as i cannot afford both and i want to concentrate on getting the expansions later. So now i have to choose.

Well i went with memior '44. What it ultimately came down to was the fact that its now been out for a while and when i get the money the expansions are already out.

I also ordered up a copy of Muchkin. Its a spoof card game that makes fun of RPGs like D&D. Its supposed to be hillarious. Ill do a full review of the game once i get it.

The old lady ordered several copies of Pass The Pigs to hand out for Christmas presents to some friends of ours who love the game that we've been playing with our set for years.

All were ordered from Funagaingames.com. I hope their service is as good as i hear it is. I like their rewards system for buying games from them, so ill do all my boardgamming buisness with them from now on.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I ordered my Memoir 44 from them and it came in pristine condition very promptly even at the height of the Christmas rush. You'll love it. If we weren't tied up with C&C: Ancients, we would be on to the Russian expansion by now.

Yeah my next purchases will be the Terrain expansion pack and the Desert/winter board.
