Default 2007 Die Cast Buys of the Week

We will start our second year of featuring certain die cast items each week. We use the term "die cast" somewhat liberally, as we feature not only traditional die cast items, but also resin and mostly plastic items as well. The keys are that each featured item come pre-painted and requires either no or little assembly.

The first selections are about to posted...

Early January is a great time to take advantages of sales, and die cast vendors certainly offer their fair share (although most of us certainly would not object if there were even more). All of our selections for this week fall into this this category.

Perry Aircraft Hobbies has four versions of the recently released 1:72 scale Corgi Catalina. Two of the three are offered for $49.95 and a diorama is available for $54.95. See them here:

http://www.perryaircraft.com/cgi-bin...alina#old36103

Not to be outdone, Bad Cat is offering a Witty 1:72 scale F-16 Falcon from Edwards Air Force Base (which I just drove by today) for just $19.00. See it on the taxiway here:

http://badcattoys.stores.yahoo.net/ffaetece1wiw.html

Bad Cat also leads our AFV offerings this week. They have a 21st Century 1:32 M7 Priest for $14.00. See it lobbing HE shells here:

The sales of January continue, providing good news to the holiday depleted wallets of collectors everywhere.

We'll start with a whole page of specials, including a good many on the almost never discounted King and Country line at the Spirit of '76. Be sure to check out the K & C specials, but our featured item is a short barreled grau Pz IV from WBritain. This piece, like all WBritain WW II offerings, is in the 1:35 scale. The discounted price is $45.00.

Here's the link to the sales page, with the featured item appearing second from the bottom:

http://www.spirit-of-76.com/onsale/index.htm

Our second featured AFV is a relatively new offering from Dragon in their neo-classic 1:72 scale. It is a captured T-34/85 in German dress for $13.75. Details & picture from Great Models are here:

The Colts have won the Super Bowl and our attention, or at least at little of it, returns to things die cast.

Our first AFV is an early production Tiger 1 from the Dragon 1:72 scale line. It is from 3000 Toys and is available for $13.95. Picture it here:

Our second AFV offering is from the same line and in the same scale and is also in the same AFV lineage. It is a winter camoed Sturmtiger from Diecast Direct for just a buck more at $14.95. Diecast Direct won't let me show you the picture of this mini-monster, but you can see it by clicking:

http://www.diecastdirect.com/asp_mod...ctCode=DW60025

Our first areal offering is from my favorite maker of air plane die cast products, GMP. Some of you may recognize this company from their well know race car line. Their 1:35 planes are also excellent and at most sites will set you back about $150 a pop. You can certainly pick one up at a significantly lower price through an on-line auction. But among the best prices that I have found from an on-line store is our first aircraft pick this week. From Pro Star 2 Collectibles, Inc, we feature a "Cripes A Mighty 3rd" livery of the P-51D Mustang for $79.95. See it here:

Buyer to pay S&H $10.00 UPS in 48 States
This item is new in the box. Cripes A Mighty 3rd P-51 Mustang WWII Fighter 1/35 GMP. The replica features fully functional landing gear, flaps, rudder, a sliding canopy, and removable engine cowling. Each replica is serialized, with a limited run. Bonus 128 pg. book included with each purchase. 352nd Fighter Group by Thomas G Ivie. This book has tons of stories from the pilots that flew in the war and features many rare photos of the P-51s they piloted. 1 of 1,000. Wingspan 13 inches, Length 11 inches, and Height 5 inches.

Our final pick comes from Great Models and can be had for $14.95. It is:

Minichamps makes some of the best die cast AFVs available today. Checking my sources, it appears that almost all the dealer have no or very limited stock of any such AFV that has been released. Finding any at all can be a challenge, but finding one at a decent price is an almost an impossible quest at this moment. However, I have uncovered two Minichamps classics from AWA at prices that you can almost afford--$79.20 a pop. My suspicions are that stock is very limited. So you should probably place your order ASAP!

Minichamps are in the 1:35 scale (give or take), and are very heavy die cast with great details and working suspensions. Our first selection is the camo version of the Tiger 1. This is a mid-production Tiger. See it here:

The link is here:

http://www.ewa1.com/cgi-bin/sshp/sho...temid=MIM10001

Our second AFV is another Minichamps classic, the Jagdpanther. Here it is:

The link to it can be found here:

OK let's go to the air. Closest to the ground is an item from the great Franklin Mint/Armour sale being held at the Monkey Depot. Available for just $34.95 it is a 1:48 Cobra helicopter. Here are more details and a picture:

Franklin Mint B11E297 AH-1 G Cobra US Army Widow Maker Vietnam 1971 1/48 Franklin Mint Armour

The link to it at the Monkey is here:

https://www.monkeydepot.com/index.as...D&ProdID=11043

Our final item is from the current era at Diecast Direct, who will not let me show it to you. It is a Dragon 1:72 F-15E Strike Eagle "Sneakly Carrot" is offered for closeout price of just $18.88.

See her here before someone else snaps it up:

As was done last week, I have uncovered two Minichamps classics from EWA at prices that you can almost afford--$79.20 a pop. My suspicions are that stock is very limited. In fact one of these is said to be the "last one." So if you want one, you should probably place your order ASAP!

Minichamps are in the 1:35 scale (give or take), and are very heavy die cast with great details and working suspensions. Our first selection is the:

Military SD.KFZ.25 Half Track Russia
Winter 1/35 . . . . Ref.No. MIM11271 by MINICHAMPS MILITARY
Year: - n/a; Scale. 1/35, metal built, 412% qc% </B>
-SALE! 30% off List - was $99

The link is here:

http://www.ewa1.com/cgi-bin/sshp/sho...temid=MIM11271

Going forward in time, our second pick, which appears in west German livery is:

Military M48 tank A2GA2 Battle Tank
. . . . Ref.No. MIM41001 by MINICHAMPS MILITARY /LAST ONE
Year: - n/a; Scale. 1/35, metal built, 76% qc% </B>
-SALE! 30% off List - was $99

Here's the link:

http://www.ewa1.com/cgi-bin/sshp/sho...temid=MIM41001

In the event that you prefer aircraft, our third selection is a 1:72 scale IXO Dauntless in early war US livery for a closeout price of $15.00 at Bad Cat. Living up to their name, Bad Cat will not less us show a picture, but you can see it here:

http://www.badcataviation.com/sbda1ixoix.html

Our final selection is from Big Boys War Toys, which is apparently going out of business and liquidating their inventory. Our pick is the:

F-16C 115th FW

"USAF Wisconsin ANG, 50th Anniversary"

1:72 SCALE
LENGTH: ABOUT 7 1/2"
WINGSPAN: ABOUT 5 1/2"

The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations. This plane belongs to the 115th Tactical Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard, flying out of Truax Field, Madison, Wisconsin.

With 20% off the listed price, you should be able to fly it home for bit more than $20.00.

Our AFV picks this week bear different brand names, but they are both De Agostini products. Both are in the unusual 1:43 scale and like the 1:72 Dragons come with their own individual display cases.

Our first pick is from CR GRACE COLLECTIBLES:

Schuco German Rocket Halftrack SDKFZ 215 Fuss 363872

Price: $15.99

Schuco German Rocket Halftrack

The link is here:

Our second AFV selection is from DieCast Direct and is the Puma "Germany 1944". It is from the EDG line and can be snared for $14.95. They won't let me show it, but you can check it out here:

http://www.diecastdirect.com/asp_mod...Code=EDG851721

Big Boys War Toys has been trying to liquidate its stock and go out of business (or so it would appear) for some time. Both of our airborne picks are from their remaining inventory and both feature a 20% discount from the stated price.

The first is available for about $64 (with the 20% discount) and is:

Messerschmitt Bf109G "Red 6"

Arnold Doring, 2./JG300, Germany, 1943

1:32 SCALE DIECAST METAL

WINGSPAN: ABOUT 12"

JG 300, the original "Wilde Sau" unit, used the Bf109 in answer to the Allied use of "Window," which temporarily blinded radar and hampered conventional night fighters. Under the "Wilde Sau" system, single-engine fighters of an entire staffel or gruppe were readied for attack by Allied fighters/bombers. The gruppes were dispatched in sections: The first section would take off within 15 minutes of expected enemy aircraft, with additional sections taking off at set periods hence.

The link to it is here:

http://www.bigboyswartoys.com/cgi-bi...tem=CORAA34901

Our second pick for about $24 (discount included) is:

F-4J Phantom Michigan, 1980

1:72 SCALE DIECAST METAL

WINGSPAN: ABOUT 7"

It's link is here:

Our first pick this week is the largest land based fighting vehicle, historically speaking, that we have ever featured. From Great Models it is:

our second ground selection is also big. At 1:18 scale, the Ultimate Soldier XD M41 Walker Bulldog tank will a good bit of your display space! Including the 20% discount offered by Big boys War Toys, you can almost get in and drive it home yourself if you have about $38.40. Take a look:

Bulldog Tank (Winter-Weathered)

1:18 SCALE IS FOR USE WITH 4 INCH FIGURES

This is an authentic 1:18 scale replica of a Vietnam era M41 Walker Bulldog tank. This tank has been "winterized" and includes one figure. Packaged on a black display case in a window box. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

The M41 "Walker Bulldog" Tank was a light tank designed to be air-transportable and to provide mobile firepower in combat. The M41 was developed from the T37 series of light tank designs from World War II. Design began in 1949 with the intent of creating a replacement for the M24 Chaffee. The M41 is named for Gen. W.W. Walker who was killed in a jeep accident in Korea.

While the M41 was highly maneuverable, reasonably potent, simple to operate, and effective in combat, it also used fuel at an alarming rate and was extremely noisy. Its main gun was fully stabilized and very accurate for the time. Produced in the 1950´s by Cadillac´s Cleveland Tank Plant with first production models completed in 1951. By 1953 the M41 Bulldog had totally replaced the M24 Chaffee. The US did not use the M41 in combat in Vietnam but did provide a number of them to the South Vietnamese during 1965 as part of a massive re-equipment program. The M41 was highly effective against North Vietnamese T-54/55 tanks in the Vietnam war with its 76mm gun. However, in Vietnam the M41 suffered from being too light for most traditional battlefield support tasks and too heavy for most internal security tasks.

It's time to go to the air. Our first selection is again from Great Models. It is a Dragon Wings is a politically correct FW 190 A-3. While I like the Dragon line of airplanes, I don't like the fact that I have to add decals to the tail of the German planes to make them historically accurate. But if PC is OK with you or you don't mind slapping on a couple of decals that are not included, at $11.95, this plane might be for you.
