Lightbulb Time for Another WWII Trivia Smackdown!

Answer is "A", Jurgen von Arnim.

Last commander of AK in Tunisia area after Rommel left sometime in 43'. Surrendered to the British (I think), in April or May of 43'.

The answer is "D" Rommel.

It was no longer the Afrika Korps under Arnim.

Well... the Afrika Korps was a part of the newly designated Army Group Africa which Arnim commanded. However, the last commander of the actual Afrika Korps was General Hans Cramer, a good looking fellow: http://ww2photo.mimerswell.com/perso...nks/cramer.htm

Bah! Semantics!

They were still the same troops. your honor. When exactly did the AK stop being the AK while still in theatre? I never heard of that before.

No--after the Allied invasion in French North Africa, a new force was created by the Axis to oppose the forces landed and their Free French Allies already there. Eventually what was was the DAK linked up with this Axis force.

BTW--Mark may well be correct with his answer, but remember the rules: no research to produce an answer.

A. Jurgen von Arnim. He was captured, and the AK was essentially disbanded. Although Hitler surely still had it on the books for the defense of Berlin

Well I'd say given the way KG_Norad is kicking my ass in our Mersa Matruh battle using HPS El Alamein I will be the last commander of the Afrika Korps.

Okay, I did have to look it up, but I knew it wasn't Arnim or Rommel. Actually, Rommel gave up command of the Afrika Korp in the summer of '41 when Hitler activated Panzer Group Africa with Rommel in command. The Afrika Korps remained a distinct unit until destroyed in May '43.

Only the Afrika Korps used the Palm Tree/Swastika seal, not all German forces in Africa.

No winner this week! The last commander of the Afrika Korps was General Gustav Fehn.

Here is his bio:
