KampfGruppe Southern Command
It has been almost two monthes since I went to Texas to visit my family and Mark (KG_Soldier). I haven't written about it yet because I have just been either too sick or too busy to gather my thoughts. But now sitting with some time I chastise myself for not doing so sooner because the thoughts that I needed to gather are not all that sophisicated.
Mark and his lovely wife were the most engaging, warm and considerate hosts it has been my sincere pleasure to befriend. Mark took time out his day to show me around the gorgeous town he lives in (New Braunfels, TX) and after just a couple hours there it was apparent to my why, in his profile, he puts in the Location section "Eden". I did get to see the infamous "Shed" though I dare not step inside lest the temptation to leave a decade of sobriety behind become too great to endure. Mark cooked for his wife and I at both breakfast and dinner the evening before. I had underestimated the extent to which his wife had acutally domesticated him. Rather amusing... I do however want the recipe to his squash dish! It was to die for! I got to sample a little of the rather unpredictable Texas weather. A storm gathered up in the span of about 20 minutres. In that time we went from lightning in the distance to 50 mph winds blowing debris faster than we could safely drive! All in all it was my privledge to be a guest in their home. A nicer couple I have not met in many years and it is my luck and good fortune to be able to call both of them my friends!

Thanks for the kind words, Rob.
Even though Rob and I fight bare-fisted in the forum, we’ve maintained a mutual respect as well as a long internet friendship. So far the KG members I’ve been fortunate enough to meet have all exceeded my high expectations; we are indeed a fine group of gentlemen. I’d really like us all to get together at a KG Summit—hand to hand, face to face: a fishing trip in Texas or Pennsylvania, another Civil War battlefield (I’d go to Gettysburg again in a heartbeat), even a trip out to California (I’d face my fear of being on the West Coast when it falls into the ocean). May ’08 is good for me and a good month for smallmouths down here. But it matters not to me. I’ll try to make whatever works best for everyone. Come back anytime, Rob. It was a pleasure. And I welcome any other KG member lucky enough to find himself in Texas to come stay with us a few days if you have the time.

The Ranger is originally from your home state (you know--the one that brought us Mayors Daley and Obama), but is now north Texan--a little on western side.
