Default Who's your Favorite?

My brother came over today to borrow some of my Pink Floyd records and after a short conversation we got into quite the heated argument over who was the better front man for Pink Floyd, Rodger Waters or David Gilmore. So i thought id put the question to you guys, who is your pick and why?

I voted for David Gilmore. Not only do i like his voice better, but i also belive that he is probably one of the most underrated guitar players in the world today.

I have never really cared for Pink Floyd myself, I never understood the "Big Deal" with them.

I voted for Mr. Gilmore not because he is necessarily "better" but because of the direction Roger Waters took the band in his last 2 albums with them.

Lyrically, no one can touch Roger. His imagery, satire and knack for cutting to the heart are still second to none in his tenure with PF.

For those who don't "get" what makes Pink Floyd a legend I can only offer you this bit of advice; Do not try to separate the music from the words as they are so interdependent that to do so will do an injustice to both leaving you with only half of a bold and intricate tale that when experienced as a whole will have you clutching at the edge of reason and grasping at tattered emotional threads. A taste from The Final Cut:

The Hero's Return

Jesus Jesus what's it all about
trying to clout these little ingrates into shape
when i was their age all the lights went out
there was no time to whine and mope about
and even now part of me flies over
Dresden at angels one five
though they'll never fathom it, behind my
sarcasm desperate memories lie.
Sweetheart sweetheart are you fast asleep, good
'cos that's the only time that i can really talk to you.
There is something that i've locked away.
A memory that is too painful
to withstand the light of day.
When we came back from the war the banners and
flags hung on everyones door.
We danced and we sang in the street and
the church bells rang.
But burning in my heart
my memory smoulders on
of the gunners dying words on the intercom

But having given you this, the words fall so short of the emotion and depth lent from the music.

Yours is funny too Rob. You say don't seperate the music from the words; and then, you do just that! ROFLMAO.

Famous words of Marty from Joel and Ethan Coen's first and best film "Blood Simple,"

"That's what's fuckin' funny!"

Rob's right Andy, im not sure what you dont understand. with all due respect.
Pink Floyds music is the ultimate encapsulation, or melding of lyrics and music. combine that with one of their light shows and it truely is a spectical beyond comprehension. these guys are unparalled geniuses when it comes to music and the spoken word.

Once again, your uncanny ability to recognize the painfully obvious is thing of wonder.

I've listened to their albums I just think it's nothing that floats my boat so to speak... Like they say "To each is own" :)
