367th FG
Gentlemen,
Few of you probably realize that most of the Air National Guard units have roots in WWII flying squadrons. Many of the the deactivated Groups were reactivated and renumbered when the Air Force became its own Branch in 1947. Out of this was born the Air National Guard. The 148th Fighter wing traces its roots to the 367th Fighter group which belonged to 9th Air Force. They flew P-39s, P-38s and P-47s. I have included a link to their web site, there are several great pictures of pilots and aircraft. Several years ago a few of the maintenance guys wanted to have some of the nose art from the 367th painted on our F-16s as a tribute to those deserving airman. Unfortunately in the age of political correctness it was shot down by our commanders. The 148th carries on this tradition flying the P-51, F-94, F-89, F-102, F-101, RF-4C, F-4D, F-16A Block 15, and lastly the F-16C Block 25 A personal favorite is Captain Larry Blumer's P-38 "Scrap Iron IV" P-38s might have been fun to fly, but were a maintenance mans nightmare to maintain. www.367thfightergroup.com
