It's sad that there has been next to no coverage of this heroic Navy man and his remarkable deeds and life. His medal was awarded for action in Afghanistan, a place that almost all politicians in the U.S. say we should be.

Yet there has been a virtual main stream media blackout or (at best) back paging of this newsworthy and important matter. What does this say about our reporters of the news? What does it say about our values as a nation?

This isn't sarcasm- but do you think the lack of coverage has to do with the fact that opium production has increased a hundred-fold since we ousted the Taliban? Just venturing a guess. Seems like a major irony, don't you think?

I've watched several documentaries on the Military History channel (Combat Zone, War Diary, etc.) & they give excellent 1st-hand, close up looks at the daily lives of our soldiers & the Hell they go through in Afghanistan, our "forgotten" war. I highly recommend everyone check them out if you have that channel.

A couple of points to make....

1. Go buy and read "Lone Survivor". Its written buy the one guy who lived out of the Lt.'s platoon and it details the whole mission and storry about how they got into the fight they were in. I just finished it and its and excellent read.

2. 99.999999% of the time you'll never see positive stories about true American War Heroes on MSNBC, NBC, CBS, CNN or PBS. {Or the truth about any story for that matter. They have to put their socialistic ideological "spin" on it} They are to busy portraying Bush as a madman or our soldiers as murderers, torturers and rapists. FNC has given the Lt. decent coverage. Dont even get me started on the print press.....the NY Times covered it..... It was give 3 little paragraphs and put on page 10 of the "Metro" section.....

No Frank, I don't. The fact that Opium production has increased is given way more coverage than any heroic efforts made by American or Nato soldiers in Afghanistan. The media focuses only on negative aspects of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

By the way, my nephew made it home from Iraq yesterday, third tour. His first daughter was born four months ago while he was in Camp Fallaujah. He says the difference in Anbar Province between his 2nd tour ('05) and this one are incredible. He says Al Qaeda has lost the backing of 95% of the Sunnis in Anbar (Western Iraq) because they killed and tortured too many innocent civilians. He claims the Sunnis still want us out, but have realized we're not going anywhere until Al Qaeda is gone first.

It should get coverage. It's part of the big picture & one of the major end results of the war. Opium production has been allowed to flourish in Afghanistan since we took over. Meanwhile, Bush wants to give Mexico 1.4 Billion to help them fight a drug war in their own country. He reasoning is that we don't want these drugs coming over our border. You know.. the border we can't afford to protect? No, there's no irony there.

I don't deny that American media coverage of the wars are baised & unfair. Fox news was the only major news outlet to cover the Medal of Honor winner. (I know this because Bill O'Rielly bashed CNN & NBC for not covering it during one of his primetime shows-real classy).

Liberal media outlets certainly have a bias toward Bush & will squash any good news coming out of the Middle East. You have to dig to get an objective picture of what's going on.

But as I've said before, when I process the news, whether be from CNN, Fox, or the old lady down the street, I try to do so without any pre-concieved notions. I don't take sides on an issue automatically because I'm a Bush supporter or because I hate him. Or because I'm a Democrat/Republican. I use the ability to reason & then make the logical choice.

By the way, does your Nephew have anything to say about the impending genocide we are going to allow the Turks to commit against the Kurds? Maybe we can loan the Turks some left over Sarin gas that Chemical Ali didn't use up. After all, it's common knowledge there were Weapons of MD found in Iraq.

Well. seeing as my nephew has had nothing to do with Northern Iraq, probably not. He pretty much only talks about things he knows something about. Maybe you should give that a try.

Are confusing the Armenian genocide the Turks committed in WWI with their fight against Kurdish rebels? I've been reading about some skirmishing between rebel Kurds and Turks and a lot of threats by Turkey about invading, but this is the first time I've ever heard of skirmishing being called an "impending genocide."

By the way, the Turks have tried to cross the mountains into Iraq and fight Kurdish rebels six times in the last few decades and haven't been very successful; it's not very hospitable terrain for genocide.

Do you work for CNN? or the Democrats? or is there something about this "impending genocide" I'm missing?
I'm sure you'll find a way to blame it on America if it happens.

You know... I don't think that increased opium production in Afghanistan has led to mass increases in heroin imports to the U.S. I think we're more concerned with pot and cocaine being smuggled across the Mexican border than heroin, but I'm not sure. Maybe there are a bunch of heroin users in Detroit that I don't know about.

And by the way, we didn't "take over" Afghanistan. If we did, there wouldn't be an increase of opium production. Last time I checked, the Afghans had their own government, granted more corrupt than the Taliban, but a little less harsh on its people. But I'm sure you would say we should not have invaded Afghanistan either and we should make nice with Al Qaeda and admit 9-11 was all Bush's fault and impeach him and then hang him.

Oh yeah, and I didn't say increased opium production shouldn't get coverage, only that the media only reports bad things from the Middle-East.

And thanks for the congradulations about nephew's making it out of Iraq and back home to his newborn daughter.
