Which Would You Choose?
Okay, Its the start of the war. You are told to go outside and pick a vehicle. You have to fight from it for the rest of the war. You run outside to see your options. They are the M4 Sherman, the one with the shorter 75mm gun on it, or the Stug IIIF model. Which do you opt for and why?
Ill take the Stug any day over a Sherman. Low slung and hard to hit with good armor and a great gun and optics. HE firepower is good, AP penetration is very good. They more than offset the Turret and mechanical reliability and speed of the Sherman IMHO.

That is a toughy as much as I favor stugs I think I would still go with the sherman head to head. Now when we start throwing other things into the mix like heavier armor and air superiority I still think the Shermans has the edge for pure offensive versatility. If Im on the defence it would have to be the stug.

Even assuming that I would get the F-8 Stug, I'll take the Sherman. The Sherman has a turret and MGs. This is in addition to its speed and reliability.
Ever have a Stug become bogged or immobile when it was not facing the right direction or when the enemy came around the side or rear? Not a pretty sight!

I'd probably take a MK IIIJ over an early Sherman, but
so much depends upon a good defensive position glazed with infantry support beside the weak Stug IIIFs. Mark Snell so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. William Carlos Williams. Last edited by KG_Soldier; 04-24-2006 at 09:25 PM.. |

as much as I love stugs, in this case i'd take the shermy because of its turret, ammo loadout and mgs.

For the whole war, in whatever battle circumstances, weather, terrain or time it has to be the Sherman.
