Baseball--The Greatest Final Day of the Season
I have been a baseball fan since the late 1950's. Never do I recall experiencing (or even reading about) a more exciting last day of the regular season that came to a close just a few hours ago!
Wild charges by both wild card teams to get in. The Rays overcame a 7 run deficit to the Yankees in the 8th and 9th innnings, including scoring their first runs in the game and their 7th run with two outs in the ninth--then winning it in the 12th on a HR that cleared the closest and shortest part of the wall. The Phillies, with most of their stars on the bench (see the Yankees above) besting the Braves' ace closer for a run that was enough to send the game into extra innings. Then there of a game saving catch on the run to the wall of a Chipper Jones shot, and finally a bizarre game winning broken bat hit by an Astro refugee. The Red Sox ace reliever Papelbon losing the lead and game in the bottom of the 9th to lowly Baltimore--all after getting two outs. Adding a little spice, were the Tigers, Rangers and Brewers, who all played hard to secure post season seeds. What a night! Babe, Lou, Ty, Shoeless Joe, Josh, Cool Papa, Roberto, Diz Satch, Stan the Man, Mick, Ted (or at least his head), Spanny and all their buddies are smiling from above.

Truly amazing. The guy who hit the Rays homerun in the bottom of the 9th was batting .108 and had no hits in September. He had even played in Japan 2 years ago. I'm not a huge baseball fan but that was an incredible final regular season night unlikely to be matched again in our lifetime.
