Default Discussion re: 1:1 Scale of CMSF

A very interesting discussion regarding the 1:1 scale in CM:SF and its affect on the nature of the game. Normally I won't read anything Michael Dorosh writes because I think he is a windbag with too high of an opinion of himself to be taken seriously, but he does make some good points in his opening essay.

Interesting thread with some good posts.

It just comes down to what type of game you want to play.

If you want to control the actions of every single person under your command including the cook then play a 1:1 rep game. But the scale had better be small if it's RT or 90% of your guys will be ignored or headless zombies: or it will just be a click-fest.

If you prefer to control groups of units and plan the flow of battle on a larger scale say company/Battlion then 1:1 is not the best way to do it but CMBO/BB/AK style is.

I don't like click-fest "RTS" games myself, you usually only have a general plan for your units, "go there-attack." But theres no detailed planning involved which to me represents a soldiers ability to think on the fly ("get behind that wall!") for lack of a suitable A.I.

It's not if a game is good or not off the bat (personal opinion) it's if I will even play it's era & game system. I don't play "modern" era wargames or RTS sytems. If the next "CM" WWII game is RTS I won't buy it even if it's rated as great by players who like RTS game.

BTW- if you want the RT feeling in CMBB etc just play TCP & set the timer to real 1 minute planning phases & have fun!

Thanks for posting it Rob. It is an interesting read and somewhat of a welcome surprise from the thread starter, who is a BIG fan. I expected more fanboy interjections. At least on the first page, these were relatively few and mercifully short.
