Default eLicensing: Nightmare or No Big Deal?

This is what Battlefront is attaching to almost all of its games, including current releases of CMBB & CMAK (and TOW?):

http://www.battlefront.com/elicense_faq.html

This is what some folks are saying about it:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp....86cfc8c9249a5e

I'm glad that I will not be one of the first to buy CMSF (if I buy it at all). Guess I'll let the pioneers tell me about their experiences and limitations with it. In addition to issues shared by everyone else, I will need to install my core games on three computers, all of which are for personal use only. I suspect that this will be a problem under the "we assume you are a crook" thinking of many companies these days.

Thanks Andy--please flesh out your thoughts. Your conclusion is clear. What aspect or aspects about eLicensing get to you the most?

Here's for staters....

If you want to license the game on a computer without a Internet connection you MUST be able to copy files to and from it from another, internet connected computer. The process for Offline Licensing is covered below
I'm sorry but besides all the other crap.... This is what irks me the most!

Quote:
"What is the communication protocol which eLicense uses? "
  • eLicense connects with elicense.com using port 80. The protocol is HTTP 1.1, with the mime type plain text. The URL's are 128 bit encrypted for security.

  • How soon before thats EXPLOITED?

And like you Bill, I have 3 computers for future gaming against the next Generation KGer's ( Drew, Ian & Hunter )

I find this assinine ( spelled correctly, You Grammar Nazi Marky mark)

Quote:
“I want to install the game on a second computer, how do I do that?”
Each license code of the game allows you to have the game installed and licensed on two computers (locations) at one time. Therefore, if you want to license the game in two spots, just license the second install as you would normally.

In order to install and license the game in a third spot though, you will first have to unlicense it on one of your two other computers (locations).

What happens if your PC just dies.... ( HDD or whatever and you Can't "UNLICENSE" it?

Quote:
"I need to re-format my computer, what should I do about my game and license?"

You should unlicense your game before you format the drive. Then when you are finished and have re-installed the game, re-license.

With the more and more I read what people are saying and having read the "eLicensing"

This IS going to be the DEATH of the Combat Mission community.
Personally, it sounds like a band-aid for a shark bite....
Could this be the begiining of the END....for BattleFront?

I think so.....

Look what happened to EA's BattleField 2142..... After it was found out that the game installes spyware/Anti-Piracy software, where did it it end up.... in the bargain bins in the local PC Game shops....

Battlefront lost me as a customer for the rest of my life!

SCREW THEM, I hope they get whats coming to them!
