Default Blue vs Blue, Red vs Red scenarios

Call me stupid, but frequently at the BFC forums, I've come across this terminology. What does it mean, "Blue vs Blue"?

Is it a war gaming reference? Does it have real-life military meaning?

Thanks.

Yes it does, Frank. Blue vs Blue is what the Allies were afraid of at Falaise -- two Kampfgruppes from the same side running into each other on the battlefield and not recognizing each other as friendly, thus exchanging fire. In the gaming world, it's the equivalent of playing CM Russian vs Russian or German vs German or American vs American. I think CMx2 suckage has this feature.

Yes it does, and it is a way to play outside CMSF's asymmetrical design of red (Syrian) vs. blue (U.S. Army).

Blue vs Blue is an actual military term used by the US and other coalition forces. There have been incidents in both Gulf Wars, and in Afghanistan in which American airmen accidentally bombed British forces.
