About the Challenger II Tank (MBT-Main Battle Tank):The FV4034 Challenger II is the main battle tank (MBT) currently in service with the armies of the United Kingdom and Oman. Built by the British company, Vickers Defense Systems (now part of BAESystemsLand and Armaments). The manufacturer advertises it as the world's most reliable main battle tank, although military operations in desert conditions have exposed significant problems which had to be addressed. As of January 2008, two Challenger II’s have been damaged and one destroyed (by a friendly fire engagement by another Challenger II) in combat. The Challenger II is an extensive redesign from Challenger I, the MBT from which it was developed. It uses the basic hull and automotive parts of its predecessor, but all else is new. Fewer than 5% of components are interchangeable.

The Challenger II has now replaced Challenger I in service with the British Army and is also used by the Royal Army of Oman. The UK placed orders for 127 Challenger II tanks in 1991 and an additional 259 in 1994. Oman ordered 18 of the tanks in 1993 and a further 20 in November 1997. The Challenger II entered service with the British Army in 1998, with the last delivered in 2002. It is expected to remain in service until 2035. Deliveries for Oman were completed in 2001. The Challenger II has seen operational service in Bosnia, Kosovo-Serbia and Iraq (2003–present).

In 1952, While aboard the USS Bataan during the Korean War, VMA-312 "Checkerboards" pilot Capt. Jesse Folmar became the first American to shoot down a jet fighter with a propeller-driven aircraft. On September 10,1952, Captain Folmar was able to down one of a pair of MIG-15s that attacked him and his wingman, but was himself shot down when attacked by four other MIGs Capt. Folmar parachuted safely into the water and was rescued shortly thereafter.

The F4U Corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War II and the Korean War. It paired a lightweight fuselage with a powerful engine and large propeller. The Corsair served in smaller air forces until the 1960's, following the longest production run of any piston-engined fighter in US history (1942–1952).

The Corgi Aviation Archive features a wide selection of high quality, ready-made, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, using specifications of the original aircraft. Corgi models are built with diecast metal and some plastic components.

The models in the Corgi Aviation Archive series feature: realistic panel lines, a detailed cockpit with pilot figure, historically accurate aircraft markings and landing gear with rubber tires. They can be displayed with the landing gear down or 'in flight' on the included stand.
