This is the nicest hijacking of a thread I have seen in a long time.

I figured that since I was slamming the underlying hypothesis of Norad's article, I should at least throw out something positive about summer -- just as his thread starter requested. I'm glad I did -- look at those beatiful bass.

I haven't done it, but I suppose I could take a radio and enjoy a ballgame the way I like best, on the radio that is! By the way, in the water at 13:30 out at 15:00 -- seven largemouths and three smallmouths, none very big, but one largemouth eighteen inches. :)

The fishing sounds great.
But if you're listening to that radio, you heard that the Astros lost to the St. Louis Cards in extras. Eck and So-Tag, throw-back old fashion style players both, are the heroes for the good guys!

Guys, as much as i like to fish, this conversation needs to be moved somewhere else. We are being disrespectful to our new brother and his hard work in putting together an article for our enjoyment.

Thanks for the links Kharkov. Also I am glad that I was able to spawn some lively conversation around here...just as you requested...
In defense of my article though...I didn't say baseball was perfect and I did mention the salary cap issue. But in the same breath I also said that the issue of salary doesn't kill the game for me. This article was more then anything about my love of baseball, and the joy of spring I have been feeling in a more general sense. Yes I didn't harp on the negatives of the sport but I did mention them. The purpose was to focus on the positive because deep down I am an optimist at heart and it is my sincere hope that all will turn out well for baseball eventually. Despite the issues you raised which I agree are issues baseball had better take seriously, there are still things about the game worth mentioning and players who excel at what they do. I may not be a Yankees fan per say but it is hard not to like Derek Jeter. Not only is he a great all around player but he is another that seems to truly love the game and is trying to put forth a positive image. So, while I agree with your points, and I am sypathetic to the plight of teams with small payrolls, I still enjoy the game. Finally as for highjacking this thread, it was meant to be about the article AND your summer hobbies so no on really highjacked anything! Thank you all for taking the time to not only read my humble attempt to write an article of some worth but to post so much about it as well.

Well spoken Mike. You sound like your point of veiw is comming from the heart of a 10 year old on some local little league team, and to me at least thats a damn good thing to have in your heart.
