Sorry thought one game was still going...
Check new Thread Rd3. What did you think of that round? Hard for me to tell with few screen shots & leaking of tactical operations.

Tougher senerio than I thought it would be, I ran the finns sisi squads to key intersections in heavy buildings moved the HMGs to cover some of the long avenues. True to real tactics, I set up my fields of fire to cover areas SSpoom needed to cross to attack the flags or my positions, while trying to avoid frontal fire.
Sisi squads fly through the ammo and fire disipline was paramount. In the end, although I had boots on the V/Ls, all Steve had to do was get close enough to them to turn them into question marks. I was lucky to get a draw as I took higher casualities......

The battle was quite even, provided the Axis chose a force mix similar to the one we selected. If not, they would be outgunned and out numbered by the Soviets, who can buy infantry very cheaply.
The strength of even play was also a weakness, as two fairly equal players will be hard pressed to do anything other than split the VL points. The one exception here is that one side or the other could get forces sufficiently close to the the VL occupied by an opponent that are close enough to throw the VL into the "?" category. This situation reflects luck at least as much as skill needed to maneuver the troops that close to the VL. There was a lot of good firefighting action. The results were usually determined by the classics of range fire power, numbers, angles and terrain. Setting up kill zones and covering angle so advance were two things that made this battle fun to play.

My Infantry gun crews were the key to keeping me in the game.
I pushed 1 gun halfway across the map and the other 2 nearly as far. As far as the troop option/firepower deal goes I dropped the ball bigtime. My limited knowledge (plus time away) led me to think (duh) that Engineers were the best unit for urban fighting, I was completely oblivious to the firepower difference between SMG squads and Engineers. My plan fast became one of just trying to keep the Finns out of Smg range and to keep them hopping with the H.E. from the Infantry guns. I think if the Finns would have known we didnt have SMG troops this one would have been over in a hurry(IMHO) It was fun I would have enjoyed throwing another 1500-2000 points worth of re-enforcements to the meat grinder we had going.
